Fair
Trade Terms for Artists from
Collect World Art
It is important to Collect World
Art that our dealings with artists
are fair and carried out with
integrity. It is with these
principles in mind that Collect
World Art has established the
following Fair Trade terms for
our artists.
Artists have two options for
arrangements with Collect World
Art : CWA Portfolio and CWA
Representation. Artists can
participate in both options
at the same time, although only
one option can be selected for
a specific piece of art. Below
is a summary of the terms for
artists.

Giving
Collect World Art donates money each
year to charitable organizations
that are conducting work in
the communities of our artists.
Our focus will be primarily
on charitable organizations
working with children in underserved
communities. The funds
for these donations primarily
come from the work of Collect
World Art¹s parent organization,
Fiadante (www.fiadante.com).
We selected Asha (www.ashanet.org)
as the recipient of our first
donations. Asha does important
work in education for underserved
children across India.
Collect World Art and Fiadante
are committed to promoting development
of our artists and the communities
in which they work.
Our sister Web site www.fiadante.com recently won a 20006 Summit Award for Activism via a Web site.
Collect World Art Portfolio
With the Collect World Art Portfolio option, we purchase the piece of art and the copyright from the artist and add the piece to the Collect World Art collection. This option has the following benefits to the artist:
Upfront cash payments are made to the artists for the purchase of their artwork at local market prices. Most art dealers and galleries take art on consignment, meaning that the artist only gets paid on a sale. Upfront payment is a significant benefit to the artist.
10% share of net re-sale price if Collect World Art sells original work. This is higher than the droit de suite rights that exist in most countries that recognize such rights. In the US droit suite rights are not recognized at all in most states, so this benefit is rarely available in the US.
10% share of net profits from reproductions or licensing of the unmodified, original work (this does not apply to derivative works; instead, a share of all derivative sales goes to charity).
Our programs address the applicable technical, practical and legal issues associated with producing and promoting the art. Collect World Art handles all the licensing and contract work.
Upon request, Collect World Art will provide free digitized versions of the artist's work that the artist can use for their own non-commercial purposes (e.g. artist's own web site, creation of new art).
Continued source funding for Collect World Art portfolio artists. Collect World Art is a collector that buys repeatedly from its portfolio artists.
Access and exposure to an online and offline community of art lovers (Collect World Art pays all the costs of creating the Collect World Art Web sites and shows and covers all marketing and advertising costs).

Collect World Art Representation
With the Collect World Art Representation option, Collect World Art works as the artist's representative in connection with the promotion of the artist and the commercialization of the artist's work. Collect World Art provides this representation in return for a commission and assignment of the copyright to the art works handled by Collect World Art. This option has the following benefits to the artist:
Collect World Art uses its contacts in the art world to introduce the artists to collectors and galleries.
Collect World Art can represent the artist in negotiations and contract arrangements. This is particularly helpful for artists located outside the US.
Collect World Art can assist with storage and shipping.
Upon request, Collect World Art will provide free digitized versions of the artist's work that the artist can use for their own non-commercial purposes (e.g. artist's own web site, creation of new art).
The artist shares in 50% of any net profits from sales of originals or reproductions or licensing of the unmodified work (this does not apply to derivatives; instead, a share of all derivative sales goes to charity).
The terms and conditions are non-negotiable. Participation by an artist is purely voluntary. Collect World Art may change these terms at any time, although changes will only apply to new Collect World Art Portfolio acquisitions and new Collect World Art Representations. If you are interested in becoming a Collect World Art Portfolio Artist please also read the Information for Artists page and contact us at info@collectworldart.com. Qualified new artists will receive the complete terms and conditions before beginning participation in the Collect World Art Portfolio and Collect World Art Representation. |
